Early Times Report

Chandigarh, Aug 18: Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women marked the beginning of its Induction Week on a spiritually uplifting note with a Havan ceremony. The event was graced by Sh. R. C. Jeevan, Senior Member of MCM DAV College Governing Body, as the Chief Guest. The sacred ritual was performed by Pandit Dau Dayal from Arya Samaj, Sector 16, Chandigarh, and attended by newcomers and faculty members, who together offered prayers to the holy fire for an auspicious and successful academic session ahead.
Addressing the gathering, Sh. R. C. Jeevan expressed joy that the new academic journey of students commenced with divine blessings. He emphasised that Yajya is not merely a ritual, but “a feeling, an emotion, and a supreme karma” that symbolises progress and discipline in life. Urging students to understand the true attributes of God, he highlighted that divinity lies in creation, conduct, and transformation of the universe, and advised them to worship the one eternal truth alone. He inspired the students to let Daya (compassion) and Dharam (righteousness) guide their actions. Quoting Swami Dayanand Saraswati ji, he reminded them that any act free of fear, doubt, and shame qualifies as ‘shubh karam’. Drawing an analogy between yajya’s agni and life, he said that both attain meaning when kept in discipline and balance. He further urged the students to instil values and knowledge during their time at MCM so that they may emerge as responsible individuals who contribute to society. To instil pride and inspiration, he also shared the life story of Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan, acquainting the students with the rich legacy of the institution.
Welcoming the newcomers, Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma underlined that “freedom and responsibility should always go hand in hand.” On the occasion, she also announced the launch of the ‘College Konnect’ App, designed to enhance accessibility and communication for students.
