PM Modi's GST reform to bring relief to traders, farmers, consumers: Dr Parneesh | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 20: Senior BJP leader Dr. Parneesh Mahajan today welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement on reducing Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates and simplifying the tax structure, describing it as a "major reform" that will benefit both businesses and consumers. In a statement issued today, Dr. Parneesh said, "PM Modi's announcement about reducing GST rates and simplifying the tax system is highly welcome. This step toward tax simplification will, in the coming days, greatly benefit traders, farmers, and consumers." Recalling the introduction of GST five years ago under the motto "one nation, one tax," Dr. Parneesh noted that the system was designed to create a uniform and simplified taxation regime. However, over the years, feedback from farmers, traders, and businesses highlighted the need for revisions to ensure that the tax structure better serves all stakeholders. He explained that a Group of Ministers, under his leadership, studied the issue for nearly 18 months and submitted recommendations to the GST Council. These suggestions included reducing GST rates on several essential commodities, lowering the number of tax slabs, and ensuring that benefits reach both traders and consumers. Dr. Parneesh described the Centre's move as a special contribution by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting that the reforms were announced ahead of Deepavali, providing timely relief to citizens. He congratulated the Prime Minister for taking a bold and constructive step, emphasizing that this initiative will strengthen the economy, boost business confidence, and provide tangible benefits to everyday consumers. The GST rate reduction and tax simplification, according to Dr. Parneesh, mark a significant step toward making taxation more transparent, equitable, and business-friendly, reflecting the government's commitment to supporting traders, farmers, and citizens alike. |
