Jammu, Aug 20: The Law School, University of Jammu, marked the successful conclusion of its four-day ‘Deeksharambh’ Student Induction Program today. The event, meticulously designedand coordinated by the faculty, staff, and student members of The Law School, for the newly admitted batch of students, aimed to orient them towards academic life, professional ethics, and their future roles as guardians of the legal system. The program provided a comprehensive overview of the legal profession, emphasizing holistic development through a series of engaging lectures, interactive workshops, and insightful sessions by distinguished legal luminaries, senior police officials, and accomplished alumni. The Inaugural session commenced with a warm welcome address by Prof. Seema Rohmetra, Director, The Law School, who set the tone for the program. This was followed by an insightful inaugural address by Prof. K.L. Bhatia, FounderDirector of the institution. The day was packed with essential orientations, including an NCC session by NCC Officer Dr. Isha Sharma, an NSS overview by Prof. Vishav Raksha, and a Bharat Scouts & Guides introduction by Mr. Haroon Malik. The day concluded with a critical Gender Sensitization Workshop conducted by Prof. Savita Nayyar, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies, JU. The second day was dedicated to the pressing issue of drug abuse. Experts provided a multi-dimensional perspective on the crisis. Mr. Harish Kumar, Assistant Director, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), elaborated on the NCB’s mandate, enforcement challenges, and preventive strategies. Mr. Ajay Sharma, SP South, discussed the role of community policing and legal partnerships in policing the drug menace. The session concluded with Advocate Dinesh Singh Chauhan enlightening the future lawyers on their pivotal role in combating drug abuse through legal avenues. The third day featured an enriching interaction with the institution’s esteemed alumni. The session, “Navigating Law School: Academic Insights & Career Pathways,” saw speakers share their invaluable experiences and advice. The panel included Ms. Pallavi Kesar, Senior Prosecuting Officer, ACB; Advocate Basit Keng; Advocate Damini Chauhan; Ms. Kritika Sethi, Addl. Munsiff, Samba and Flying Officer Aditya Mahajan. The final day focused on the core values of the legal profession. Dr. S.P. Vaid, Former DGP of J&K Police, underscored the non-negotiable values of honesty, probity, and ethics for achieving professional excellence. Advocate Seema Khajuria, Senior Advocate, shared her profound journey and insights from the legal profession. The program culminated with a thought-provoking address by Shri Ashok Bhan, Former DGP, J&K Police, on the intricate relationship between ‘Law, Governance, and Public Services: Intersecting paths to justice and equity’. Throughout the four days, the newly admitted students were actively engaged, gaining clarity and inspiration for their upcoming academic journey. The Deeksharambh program successfully served as a bridge, transitioning students into the world of legal education with a strong foundation of knowledge, ethics, and social responsibility. |
