Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 28: Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Dr. Devansh Yadav, today conducted an extensive tour of several wards of Jammu Municipal Corporation to assess the damages caused by continuous heavy rains over the past two days. The torrential downpour has severely affected low-lying areas, disrupting normal life and leaving many households inundated with floodwater and debris.
The Commissioner visited key affected locations including Rajendra Nagar, Canal Head, the area surrounding Peerkhu Temple, Rajiv Nagar University area, and Gujjar Nagar near the Tawi River. At each site, he interacted with residents, listened to their grievances, and assured them of prompt action from the Jammu Municipal Corporation in restoration of civic amenities across the JMC limit.
Due to the heavy rainfall, several homes and streets were submerged, and large quantities of mud and silt have accumulated inside residential premises. Acknowledging the urgency of the situation, Dr. Yadav has directed the concerned officers and field teams to complete the cleaning and restoration operations in all affected areas within the next 48 hours. He emphasized that no household should be left unattended and that the safety and well-being of citizens remain the top priority of the Corporation.
To expedite the restoration efforts, JMC has significantly increased its manpower and deployed additional men and machinery, including earthmovers, suction machines, and dumpers. Teams of sanitation workers have been mobilized on a war footing to clear debris, unclog drains, and restore basic amenities in the affected neighbourhoods.
In a bid to ease the hardships faced by residents, free water tanker services have been pressed into across Jammu city to ensure uninterrupted water supply in the coming days, Dr. Yadav said and informed that helpline numbers have been issued for citizens to directly report their requirements or seek immediate assistance from the JMC. Toll free helpline no. 18001807207
"The Jammu Municipal Corporation is committed to providing swift relief to every affected household. Our teams are working around the clock to ensure that civic amenities are restored at the earliest. Citizens are urged to cooperate with the on-ground teams and use the helpline numbers to communicate their needs," Dr. Yadav maintained.
The Jammu Municipal Corporation continues to monitor the situation closely and coordinate with other departments to ensure efficient response and mitigation measures. The citizens have been advised to remain vigilant during the ongoing monsoon period and to report any emergency to the dedicated control room.
Member Legislative Assembly, Yudhvir Sethi was also present during the tour of his Constituency.
