Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 29: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of MIER College of Education organized an Orientation Programme on Cyber Frauds for the non-teaching staff of the institution on 29th August 2025. The session aimed at creating awareness about online fraudulent practices and providing guidance on safeguarding against threats such as phishing, identity theft, and other forms of cybercrime. The resource person for the programme was Inspector Gagandeep Singh from the Cyber Police Station. The programme began with a formal welcome address by Ms. Jasleen Mohial, Coordinator IQAC, who highlighted the relevance of such sessions for staff safety and awareness. Inspector Gagandeep Singh delivered an insightful and highly engaging talk on the growing menace of cyber frauds. He explained in detail the different types of cybercrimes such as phishing scams, fake loan offers, OTP frauds, identity theft, and social media impersonation. He also shared real-life case studies handled by the Cyber Police, highlighting the modus operandi of fraudsters and the vulnerabilities commonly exploited. Inspector Singh emphasized the importance of cyber hygiene practices including the safe use of passwords, verifying links before clicking, avoiding sharing personal or financial information online, and reporting suspicious activities promptly. His practical tips and preventive measures provided the participants with hands-on guidance to safeguard themselves against digital threats in both personal and professional spheres. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Renu Gupta, Chairperson MIER, and Mrs. Rupa Gupta, Joint Director MIER. Dr. Adit Gupta, Principal, delivered words of appreciation, acknowledging the importance of the topic and commending the efforts of the IQAC for initiating this orientation.
