Chandigarh, Sept 2: The Disaster Management Committee of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Sector 36-A, in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society, Punjab State, organised a four-day First Aid Training Program. The training aimed to equip students with hands-on life-saving skills, enhance their safety awareness, build confidence, and prepare them to respond effectively in emergency situations. The sessions are being conducted by Dr. Shaina Verma, a professional trainer from the Red Cross, who provided participants with practical insights into handling life-threatening and emergency situations. Through simulated accident scenarios and live demonstrations, she guided students on the correct first aid procedures to follow. On the first day, Dr. Verma focused on CPR techniques and managing airway obstruction (choking), while on the second day, she provided training on different types of bandaging. The third day addressed emergency responses for heat strokes, suicide attempts, and other critical situations. More than 100 enthusiastic participants actively engaged in the sessions. Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma said that MCM believes in empowering students with not only academic knowledge but also essential life skills. She added that this training in collaboration with the Red Cross is a vital step towards preparing them to act responsibly and confidently in times of crisis, both within and beyond the college campus.
