Early Times Report POONCH, Sept 3: Deputy Commissioner Poonch Ashok Kumar Sharma, who also chairs the District Level Road Safety Committee (DLRSC), conducted a detailed review meeting to assess and strengthen road safety measures across the district. The discussions focused on immediate and long term steps to be taken to minimize road accidents and ensure the safety of commuters. The Deputy Commissioner issued strict directions to all concerned departments to install speed limit signboards, convex mirrors, and crash barriers at vulnerable points, based on need and priority. In a significant directive to the Chief Education Officer, the DC emphasized that vehicles must not be permitted to carry pre-nursery students. Additionally, he stressed on holding awareness programs in schools and colleges to educate students on road safety rules and regulations. Addressing infrastructural concerns, the Deputy Commissioner directed the executive engineers to immediately identify and rectify black spots-accident-prone areas-on roads to ensure the safe movement of the public. The Committee also underlined the need for strict enforcement against negligent driving, calling for revocation of driving licenses of individuals found guilty of accidents due to careless or reckless behavior. The DC reiterated the district administration commitment to building a safe and responsible road culture, urging all stakeholders to work in close coordination for effective implementation of safety measures.
