DGP Prabhat reviews rescue operations in flood-hit areas

Jammu, Sept 4: In view of the rising water levels in rivers Tawi, Chenab and adjoining nallahs due to continuous rainfall, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat visited several flood-affected areas of Jammu district to take stock of the situation and review ongoing rescue operations.
A police spokesman in a statement said that the DGP was accompanied by DIG JSK Range Shiv Kumar, IPS, SSP Jammu, and SP Rural.
Amid heavy rainfall, the DGP visited Mangu Chak, Makwal, Miran Sahib, Domana and other vulnerable locations where he met Police officers, SHOs, SDPOs, SDRF rescue teams and Jawans of Jammu Police engaged in relief and rescue work. He appreciated their active role in assisting the general public and evacuating people from vulnerable belts.
The DGP later toured Akhnoor, covering Jio Pota Ghat, Steel Bridge, and the Fort area. At the SDPO Akhnoor office, he chaired a review meeting attended by senior police and BSF officers, including DIG BSF Sunderbani-Akhnoor Range Varinder Dutta. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts between agencies to ensure the safety of citizens during the floods.
At BPP Garkhal and BSF BOP Garkhal, the DGP personally monitored the rescue of 47 civilians trapped in the Chenab river.
In a joint operation by J&K Police and BSF, all individuals from Fatu Kotli area of Garkhal, Akhnoor, were safely rescued and airlifted. The DGP lauded the timely and brave efforts of SSP Jammu, SP Rural, SDPO, SHO and IC PP in saving precious lives. He also interacted with BSF officers and Jawans, praising their dedication in border duties and disaster response. MLA Akhnoor, Mohan Bhagat, also met the DGP and expressed gratitude for the timely rescue of civilians.
Later, the DGP, along with DIG JSK Range, visited Gujjar Nagar, Hari Ki Pori, Gorakhnagar and Bagh-e-Bahu to review the water level of river Tawi and assess the impact of floods.
He directed officers and personnel to remain extra vigilant and ensure readiness for immediate rescue and evacuation operations. The DGP also commended all teams working tirelessly on the ground for their commitment in safeguarding lives during the ongoing heavy rains.
