Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 15: Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET), Jammu, today inaugurated two-week Student Induction Programme for the newly admitted B.Tech first-year students of Batch-2025. The programme is being organized under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Sameru Sharma, Principal, GCET Jammu. The commencement of this initiative on Engineer's Day carried special significance, as the day is celebrated nationwide to honor the legacy of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, the legendary engineer, statesman, and visionary nation-builder. Addressing the students, Prof. (Dr.) Sameru Sharma warmly welcomed the new batch and emphasized that the Induction Programme is designed to help students adapt to the college environment and transition smoothly into academic life. She highlighted that through expert lectures, mentoring, and interactive sessions, the initiative will inspire students to become confident, self-aware, and purpose-driven individuals. In her address, Prof. Sharma also paid rich tributes to Sir M. Visvesvaraya on his birth anniversary, recalling his extraordinary contributions in the fields of irrigation, flood control, and engineering innovation. She reminded students that Sir Visvesvaraya's life exemplifies discipline, vision, and dedication to national service, qualities that every budding engineer should imbibe. She urged all first-year students to embrace this new journey with curiosity, discipline, and determination, and to carry forward the legacy of engineers as builders of a stronger and progressive nation. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Anita Brar, Coordinator of the Student Induction Programme, in her inaugural speech underlined the importance of holistic development in shaping the next generation of engineers. She noted that the programme fosters confidence, creativity, leadership, interpersonal relationships, and motivation for excellence. Prof. Brar further reiterated that celebrating Engineer's Day alongside the Induction Programme reinforces the values of service, innovation, and commitment to nation-building. The event was attended by all Heads of Departments - Prof. Simi Dutta, Prof. Sarabjeet Singh, Dr. Rajiv Bali, Prof. Dina Nath, and Dr. Heera Saini - who extended their greetings to the new batch and encouraged students to nurture values of integrity, responsibility, and innovation. The two-week programme offers a dynamic mix of expert talks, interactive sessions, and mentoring, designed to promote both academic success and personal growth. Eminent speakers from reputed institutions and leading organizations across the country will engage students on diverse themes, including: From Campus to Community: Engineering Career and Beyond by Ms. Sukhmani Paul Kour and Time Management for Engineers by Dr. Arti Kundan. These sessions aim to provide practical insights into the engineering profession, highlighting the importance of self-discipline, innovation, and community engagement. The inaugural programme was successfully organized by the efforts of the organizing committee comprising Dr. Raman Gupta, Sahil Bangotra, Dr. Deepika Sharma, Dr. Vikesh Kumar, Er. Neeraj Gupta, Rubina Farid, Er. Karan Kapoor, Er. Sumit Sharma, and Chater Buj Sharma.
