While addressing the “Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan- Healthy Women, Empowered Families”, a national health campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed gratitude to PM Modi for dedicating the programme to promote women’s health and wellbeing. When PM Modi launched the campaign he reaffirmed a fundamental truth: the health of women is inseparable from the health of families, communities, and the nation itself. In the 16-day campaign various activities will be held. These will include screening, maternal health services, lifestyle counselling, yoga and Ayush-based interventions for women, adolescent girls and children. The Lieutenant Governor called upon all the stakeholders to work with Whole of Government Approach and make this campaign a huge success. The women often bear the double burden of nurturing families while participating in the workforce, especially in rural and semi-urban India. Yet, their own health is frequently neglected, overshadowed by caregiving duties and social expectations. Initiatives such as this campaign bring women’s well-being to the forefront of policy and practice, ensuring that health is seen as a right rather than a privilege. This campaign aligns seamlessly with India’s larger vision of Viksit Bharat. Women today are leading from the front — in governance, entrepreneurship, sports, and grassroots leadership. Their empowerment is no longer seen merely as a moral imperative but as an economic necessity. According to several global studies, nations that invest in women’s health and education see faster growth, greater stability, and stronger social cohesion. In Jammu and Kashmir, more than nine lakh women are already part of self-help groups, driving grassroots change and contributing to local economies. Programmes such as the “Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan” complement these economic initiatives by ensuring that the physical and mental well-being of women is safeguarded. A woman who is healthy is not only an active economic contributor but also a stronger voice in her family and community. The campaign must, therefore, be viewed not just as a health drive but as a movement towards gender justice, family prosperity, and national progress. As LG Manoj Sinha rightly said, women’s supreme role in public life is crucial for peace and development. By prioritizing their health, we are investing in the foundation of a resilient and empowered India. |
