Jammu, Sept 19: Police are probing the suspected links of an arrested B.Tech student from the Central University of Jammu with narco-terrorists and bovine smugglers operating across the Jammu division. The student, identified as Kaif Ahmed, son of Shami Ahmed and a native of Barharian near Masjid in Siwan district of Bihar, was apprehended by Miran Sahib Police in the first week of August. Investigations have revealed that he was a key supplier of illegal arms to criminal gangs active in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts. According to sources, several narco-terrorists and bovine smugglers in these districts are in possession of sophisticated weapons, prompting police to widen their probe into the supply chain. “These anti-social elements have managed to procure arms from outside Jammu and Kashmir. Efforts are on to identify and trace all suppliers,” a source said. Police had registered FIR No. 27/2025 under Sections 109 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 3/25 of the Arms Act. Two criminals were arrested on the spot, and two pistols were recovered, though several others managed to escape. The case was pursued under the leadership of SHO Inspector Jai Pal Sharma, SI Ajesh Singh Jamwal, and the supervision of SDPO R.S. Pura and SP Headquarters Jammu. Continued investigations led to further arrests, including that of Balwinder Singh alias Goru Jatt of Vijaypur, Samba, from whom one pistol and live cartridges were seized. Sustained efforts ultimately led to the arrest of interstate arms smuggler Kaif Ahmed, who has been confirmed as the primary supplier of weapons to multiple gangs in the region. Police said the investigation is ongoing and hinted at more arrests and recoveries in the coming days as they work to dismantle the broader network of arms smuggling with possible narco-terror and bovine smuggling links. |
