Balbir Ram Rattan said that on August 5, 2019, by abrogating Articles 370 and 35A, the Modi government brought Jammu & Kashmir under the umbrella of equal rights as per the Indian Constitution. Prior to this, there were several provisions in place that went against the fundamental spirit of the Constitution and discriminated against Dalits, backward classes, women and marginalized communities. He further stated that Dr. Ambedkar always envisioned an India where every citizen, regardless of region, caste, or religion, would enjoy equal rights. However, because of Article 370, Dalits and those women who married outside the state were denied their fundamental rights in Jammu & Kashmir. That injustice has now come to an end. Highlighting the concerns of Scheduled Caste community, Balbir said that over 70 per cent from among refugees are SCs and now they have access to all constitutional rights that are available in other parts of the country. He also stated that the vision of an inclusive and democratic India, as imagined by Dr. Ambedkar, is being realized through the historic efforts of the Modi government. Jammu & Kashmir is now fully integrated into the national mainstream, and every citizen is being given equal opportunities for development.
