9/24/2025 9:54:25 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 24: Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (M), J&K, Dr. Arvind Karwani today conducted an extensive visit to Jagti Migrant Township to review the pace of ongoing developmental and welfare works.
During the visit, Dr. Karwani inspected the progress of construction activities in various camps and took note of the long-pending demand of residents for adequate water supply. He was informed that work on four borewells has already commenced, bringing much-needed relief to the inmates.
The Commissioner also visited Higher Secondary School, Jagti, where he reviewed ongoing developmental works and actively participated in Swachhata Pakhwara activities, reaffirming the department's commitment to cleanliness and community welfare.
Dr. Karwani sought detailed feedback from the concerned officers about the status of projects and impressed upon them to ensure timely completion of works within the stipulated time frame.
One of the major highlights of the visit was the distribution of NFSA ration cards among the migrant families. Till now, the migrant population was not covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). With their integration into the NFSA database, migrant families will now be able to seek benefits under various social sector schemes, ensuring their inclusion in the wider welfare framework.
Besides this, an awareness camp was also organized in collaboration with the Social Welfare department to create awareness regarding various social welfare schemes and to inform and enable the migrant families to avail themselves of the benefits of these programmes.
Later, a public grievance redressal camp was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Karwani at Community Hall, Jagti. The camp provided a platform for residents to raise day-to-day issues and seek redressal from the authorities.
Interacting with the people on the occasion, Dr. Karwani assured them that all genuine demands and issues would be taken up on priority and reiterated the government's commitment to the welfare and rehabilitation of the migrant community.
