Ayushman Bharat Scheme provided free healthcare to crores of citizens in 7 Years: Balbir
9/24/2025 9:54:37 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 24: Jammu and Kashmir Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson and former Vice Chairman, Balbir Ram Rattan, stated that the Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) has completed successful 7 years, and during this period, it has brought a significant transformation in the lives of crores of needy citizens.
He informed that the scheme was launched on 23rd September 2018 by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, with the aim of providing health insurance of up to ?5 lakh per year to around 10 crore poor and vulnerable families across the country. It is considered India's largest public health insurance scheme to date.
Balbir Ram Rattan said that Ayushman Bharat is not just a healthcare scheme, but has become a powerful means for poor and needy people to live a life of dignity. He shared that over the past seven years, more than 5 crore free treatments have been provided under the scheme, including for major diseases and complex surgeries. This clearly shows that the scheme is not only welfare-oriented, but has also proved to be life-saving.
He further mentioned that the scheme is applicable not only in government hospitals but also in empanelled private hospitals, ensuring access to high-quality medical services even for citizens in rural and remote areas.
Balbir Ram Rattan also said that under the Digital Health Mission, the scheme has now been linked to the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA). Under this, each beneficiary is provided with a Digital Health ID, which securely stores all their health-related information in digital form. This has not only increased transparency, but also made the treatment process easier and faster.
He stated that the Ayushman Bharat Scheme is a direct reflection of Prime Minister Modi's vision of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' (Together with all, Development for all), demonstrating the government's commitment to providing better healthcare services to every citizen of the country.
