The real reasons for the disappearance of vultures from India - Thirty-five to forty years ago, vultures were common, but now they have almost disappeared. They were mostly seen in the Hadda Rorians/Karanga Heri, where they used to eat the flesh of dead animals. This meat was their main diet. The meat of dead animals was eaten by them, which got rid of the bad smell emanating from it. Thus, timely slaughter of the meat provided relief from the spread of many diseases. After eating the meat of the animals, they would go and sit on the nearby tall trees and make rough, thick nests there. Especially the Pur Peepal and Tahli trees were their night shelters. The real reasons for the extinction of vultures - The people who take the dead animals to the slaughterhouses and skin them have started slaughtering the animals and selling their meat. Because of this, only bones remained there, which were gnawed by stray dogs. Thus, the vultures stopped getting food and were forced to wander here and there, heading towards extinction. Even now, contractors transport animals from villages and cities, and after skinning them, they sell the meat and bones. There was also a huge decline in the tall peepal and tahli trees, due to which their night shelters were also not stable. These are the real reasons for the extinction of vultures, as mentioned above. Peepal, Tahli, Sarinh and Neem trees should be planted every mile along the roads and canals so that the air is clean and the birds can nest there. Apart from this, such trees should be planted in common areas in villages as well. Vultures are also called hawks, as hawks are lighter than vultures. Hawks used to be commonly seen flying in the sky without wings, but now they too have disappeared. Vijay Garg Retired Principal Educational Columnist Malout Punjab |
