Thannamandi, Sept 28: Government Degree College Thannamandi, under the guidance of Principal Dr. Farooq Ahmed, organized a series of activities including a Medical Camp, Cleanliness and Plantation Drive, and a Painting Competition to mark World Tourism Day as part of the ongoing Seva Parv celebrations.The Medical Camp was held under the Swasth Nari Chetna Abhiyan for students, staff, and women, focusing on the screening of anemia and other prevalent diseases. A medical team led by Dr. Hasina Choudhary (MBBS, MO) and Dr. Sadiya (MO), along with pharmacists and paramedical staff, conducted checkups, blood and hemoglobin testing, distributed medicines, and provided health counselling. The camp was actively supported by faculty members including Dr. Sheraz Ahmed, Prof. Fatima Parveen, Dr. Gulshan Rashid, Prof. Supriya Gupta, Dr. Nagina Kouser, Dr. Shazia Paswal, Prof. Yasmeen Kouser, Dr. Shahid, Prof. Rizwana Kouser, Prof. Rumy Dar, and Mr. Surjit Singh. Simultaneously, the Cleanliness and Plantation Drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from NSS Volunteers and NCC Cadets. The drive, supervised by NSS Programme Officer Prof. Supriya Gupta and NCC ANO Prof. Altaf Ahmed, aimed to raise awareness about cleanliness and environmental conservation. Students planted a significant number of saplings, contributing towards a greener campus.On the occasion of World Tourism Day, a Painting Competition was also organized in collaboration with the Tehsil Legal Services Authority, Thannamandi. Coordinated by Dr. Gulshan Bhat, Convener Culture Club and Head, Department of Geography, along with Prof. Supriya Gupta and Prof. Altaf Ahmed, the event saw participation of fourteen students who depicted the themes of tourism and cultural heritage through their artwork. The winners were Sultana Syed and Mehak Fatima (First Prize, shared), Iram Farooq (Second Prize), and Uqba Raina (Third Prize).Speaking on the occasion, Principal Dr. Farooq Ahmed appreciated the efforts of the organizers, faculty, and students for making the events successful, and highlighted the significance of Seva Parv in fostering social responsibility, community engagement, and cultural awareness.
