Jammu, Sept 29: "Under the strategic leadership of Sh. R. G. Dogra (Principal, DIET Jammu), the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Jammu has established a Counselling Cell dedicated to the mental health, emotional wellbeing, and holistic development of school students and teachers across Jammu district. This initiative comes in pursuance of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020; Manodarpan Guidelines of the Ministry of Education, UMEED draft Guidelines on Suicide Prevention, and the Hon’ble Supreme Court Guidelines 2025 regarding mental health and wellbeing of students. The Counselling Cell will address crucial areas including mental health, career guidance, child protection, drug abuse prevention, inclusive education, teacher wellbeing, and allied concerns. Beyond direct counseling support, it will also develop frameworks and guidelines for school-based counselling practices, organize training programs, and conduct awareness campaigns to sensitize educators, students, and parents on pressing psychosocial issues. The Counselling Cell will be spearheaded by Dr. Romesh Kumar, HOD, at DIET Jammu who has been designated as the Nodal Officer and entrusted with leading this important initiative. Dr. Kumar brings extensive qualifications, experience, and expertise in child psychology, along with a strong commitment to enhancing school counselling services and supporting student well-being across the district."He will be supported by a dedicated team of faculty from DIET including Ms. Kanwal Preet Kour (HOD), Mr. Anil Gupta (Sr. Lecturer), Ms. Suniya Mehta (Lecturer), Ms. Rohini Rana (Lecturer), and Mr. Akash Khajuria (Teacher).
