Darhal, Sept 29: As part of the ongoing Sewa Parv celebrations, Government Degree College Darhal organized an Awareness Program on Plastic Free Environment in the college campus. The event aimed to sensitize students, staff, and the local community about the harmful effects of plastic usage and the urgent need to adopt eco-friendly and sustainable alternatives.
The Principal of the college, Prof. Zameer Ahmed Mirza, in his address, emphasized the responsibility of the youth in spreading awareness regarding environmental conservation and sustainable living. He urged the students to minimize the use of single-use plastic in their daily lives and lead by example in their families and neighborhoods.
A large number of students actively participated in the program through speeches, skits, and pledge-taking ceremonies. The pledge reaffirmed their commitment to reduce plastic dependency and to encourage the use of cloth bags, jute bags, and biodegradable materials.
Adding further strength to the message, NSS and NCC volunteers of the college also played an active role in the program, engaging the gathering with their enthusiastic participation and outreach efforts.
On the occasion, Dr. Taseem Ahmed, Dr. Mohd Akhlaq, and Dr. Abdul Ghani highlighted the severe ill effects of plastic on human health, soil fertility, water bodies, and overall biodiversity. They emphasized that responsible consumer behavior and collective action are essential to tackling the menace of plastic pollution.
The event was successfully coordinated by a team of dedicated faculty members including Dr. Ghulam Abass, Dr. Mohd Saleem Wani, Prof. Anzar Ahmed, Dr. Raja Shahid, Dr. Mohd Shakeel Kataria, Dr. Atta Ul Rehman, Dr. Mohd Shakoor, Prof. Beenish Majid, Mr. Altaf Hussain, and Mr. Jameel Ahmed.
