Master Workshop on Organised Crime, under New Criminal Laws held at DPL Jammu | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 29: A one-day workshop on "Organised Crime, Attachment of Property and Trial in Absentia" was organised today at District Police Lines (DPL) Jammu. The workshop aimed at enhancing the knowledge and professional skills of police officers and investigating officials in dealing with challenges posed by the organised criminal Gangs, mafia, Syndicates and the new provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) available to deal with such challenges and legally tackling, uprooting them for ensuring safety and security of general public. 80 investigating officers/officials of Jammu Police attended the workshop with great enthusiasm & commitment Message of SSP Jammu Sh.Joginder Singh,JKPS was conveyed to the the participants regarding the need for capacity building and proper use of new provisions available under New Criminal Laws-2023 to curb activities of the repeated offenders, history sheeters and other organised criminals, gangs to ensure the safety,security of general public as well as peace and normalcy in the region.He also urged for the proper and genuine implementation of New Provisions available under New Criminal Laws. SP headquarters Jammu, Irshad Hussain Rather, JKPS gave a detailed presentation, delivered a detailed lecture on the various aspects pertaining to:- 1)Legal provisions relating to organised crime, gangs, mafia and syndicates. Section-111(Organised Crime) & Section-112 (Petty Organised Crime) of BNS* were discussed in detail with the participants and varios parameters while invoking these sections were discussed during the session. These are key sectiobs available under BNS to curb gangs, mafia, syndicates and activities of criminal elements involved repeatedly in various crimes including economic offences and Cyber crimes with severe consequences. 2)Attachment and forfeiture of property derived from criminal activities. Section -107 BNSS is available with investigators to identify and ensure attachment, forfeiture of proceeds of Crime and accordingly return of losses to victims/claimants. 3)Trial in absentia as provided under Section 356 BNSS, its procedure and safeguards.It is available under BNSS to brought to justice absconding, Proclaimed Offenders and prevent delays in trial and judgement and prevent delay in ensuring justice. Best practices in investigation, prosecution and coordination with other enforcement agencies were regarding invoking/implementation of aforementioned sections were discussed during the workshop in detail. Participants interacted actively and discussed practical challenges faced during investigations of organised criminal networks and the methods to strengthen evidence collection, financial tracking, and legal procedures. The initiative is part of ongoing capacity-building measures of Jammu Police to ensure effective implementation of the new criminal laws and to deal firmly with organised crime and related offences. |
