Jammu, Sept 30: The Public Bicycle Sharing (PBS) project launched under Jammu Smart City and the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has been making remarkable strides in promoting eco-friendly and healthy commuting options for citizens. Implemented by Yaana Smart Technologies Pvt. Ltd., the system has received overwhelming participation, with 41,423 users registering and taking more than 6.8 lakh rides since its launch. Citizens have collectively pedaled over 1.22 lakh kilometers, resulting in a carbon reduction of 30,710 kg, a significant contribution toward making Jammu cleaner and greener.
The popularity of the service has led to a visible rise in cycle usage throughout the city.
To further strengthen cycling culture, Yaana has started introducing new stickers on cycles, giving them a refreshed look while spreading awareness about fitness and sustainable transport.
Additionally, the company has extensively serviced damaged parts of the fleet, ensuring that every ride is smooth, safe, and reliable. Company representative highlighted that misbehavior leading to damage of cycles will be dealt with serious legal actions to safeguard public property and encourage responsible usage.
“The citizens of Jammu are increasingly adopting cycles for daily commutes and fitness. With improved maintenance, fresh branding, and strong enforcement, we are confident of making cycling a part of the city’s lifestyle,” a Company representative said.
The PBS project, with 720 cycles and 80 e-bicycles across 92 stations, is not only reducing traffic congestion and pollution but also inspiring healthier lifestyles.
Key locations such as Channi Himmat, Tawi Bridge, Parade College, Jammu University, and Vikram Chowk have emerged as the busiest cycle stations, showing the system’s effectiveness in last-mile connectivity. |
