Gandhi Jayanti commemorated with reverence at Jammu North | | | early times report
Jammu, Oct 2: The 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was observed with solemnity and enthusiasm at Paloura, Jammu North. The programme was organized by Congress workers under the leadership of Hari Singh Chib, Vice President JKPCC and Incharge District President Jammu Rural. The function began with garlanding the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi, followed by an all-faith prayer meeting. Senior leaders and party activists recalled the contributions of Bapu in India’s freedom struggle and his universal message of Satya (truth) and Ahimsa (non-violence). Prominent leaders and participants present on the occasion included Sh. Som Nath Sharma (President BCC Pata Paloura), Sh. Tarun Vaid, Sh. Virender Mehta, Sh. Madan Singh Chib, Sh. Jung Bahadur Singh, Sh. Kamal Singh, Sh. Kaka Ram, Sh. Bal Sharma (President Roopnagar Welfare Committee) along with a large number of party workers and local residents. Speaking on the occasion, Hari Singh Chib emphasized that Gandhi’s teachings are a guiding light in today’s troubled times. “Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of truth, non-violence and communal harmony are not only relevant but essential for maintaining unity and peace in our society. His philosophy of inclusiveness should inspire us to work towards eradicating social evils and promoting equality. It is the responsibility of every citizen to walk on the path shown by Bapu and dedicate themselves to nation building,” he said. Chib also appealed to the younger generation to study Gandhi’s life and apply his principles in daily conduct. He stressed that in an age of division and unrest, Gandhiji’s message of peace and tolerance can bring lasting stability. The programme concluded with a pledge by all present to uphold Gandhian values and to spread the message of unity, justice, and harmony in every section of society.
