LPU ranked among India's top 5 Universities in Times Higher Education World Ranking 2025
10/11/2025 10:16:24 PM
JALANDHAR, Oct 11: Lovely Professional University (LPU) has reached an unprecedented high in global academia, achieving the 5th position among all universities in India and securing a place in the coveted Global Band of 501-600 in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026. With this remarkable ascent, LPU stands ahead of several renowned institutions, including IIT Ropar, IIT Mandi, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Patna, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), University of Delhi, and many National Institutes of Technology (NITs).
In the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, LPU's ascent has been both rapid and consistent, catapulting from a national rank of 25th and a global band of 801-1000 in the 2024 rankings, to 9th nationally and the 601-800 global band in 2025, and now to its commanding 5th position in India and the 501-600 global band for 2026.
A key driver behind this global rise is LPU's exceptional performance in research. The university has broken into the world's top 200 for Research Quality, skyrocketing to a global rank of 157, a significant improvement from its previous rank of 219. This achievement places LPU's research impact and excellence among the world's best.
The milestone was celebrated with great joy and pride within the LPU community. The celebrations were marked by a cake-cutting ceremony led by Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU and the Col. Dr. Rashmi Mittal, Pro-Chancellor of LPU, who were joined by the senior delegation and staff, all present to commemorate this significant achievement.
Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU, congratulated the LPU community stating, "This historic rise in the world's most respected rankings is a testament to the relentless dedication of our students, faculty, and staff. It powerfully validates our transformative educational model and our unwavering commitment to high-impact research. LPU'd focus remains on enhancing our global competitiveness and leading the nation to the forefront of worldwide education."
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings are among the most globally respected performance tables, judging research-intensive universities across all their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook. The ranking uses 18 carefully calibrated performance indicators across five key areas: Teaching (the learning environment), Research Environment (volume, income, and reputation), Research Quality (citation impact, research strength, excellence, and influence), International Outlook (staff, students, and research), and Industry (income and patents).
