KATRA, Oct 11: In a proactive step towards strengthening electoral participation and digital engagement among youth, the District Election Cell, Reasi, Electoral Registration office-58, in collaboration with the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of Government Degree College Katra, Kakryal, organized an innovative awareness initiative titled "Promotion and Scanning of QR Code - An Initiative Towards Increasing the Followership of College Students on Social Media Handles of Chief Electoral Officer, UT of J&K."
The event was held today, 11th October 2025, at Hall A of the college addressed by Dr. Harmeet singh HoD Political Science and witnessed enthusiastic participation from 210 students. The program aimed to familiarize young voters with the digital platforms of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Jammu & Kashmir, thereby encouraging them to stay informed about electoral processes, voter education campaigns, and important updates related to elections.
The event was briefed by resource persons named as Mohd. Maqbool Mustafa, Jagdev Singh, Diwan Chand and RajKumar ji. During the event, students scanned a specially designed QR code linking directly to the official social media handles of the CEO, J&K. This innovative outreach effort seeks to enhance transparency, accessibility, and voter engagement among the youth - the most dynamic segment of the electorate.
In the event Dr Sajad Iqbal Khan HoD Environmental Sciences and representatives from the District Election Cell highlighted the significance of such digital initiatives in fostering informed, responsible, and participatory citizenship. They also urged students to act as 'Voter Ambassadors', spreading awareness about ethical voting and the importance of participating in the democratic process.
The program was conducted under the overall supervision of the college Principal, who appreciated the collaborative efforts of the Electoral Literacy Club and the District Election Cell for implementing a meaningful and technology-driven awareness initiative.
