MLA chairs a mega event at KVK Samba

SAMBA, Oct 11: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba organised live webcasting of Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana. During the programme, Hon'ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi\ launched the PMDDKY consolidates 36 existing agricultural schemes across 11 ministries, including PM-KISAN (cash transfers), PMFBY (crop insurance), PMKSY (irrigation), and Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY), into a unified program to streamline efforts and maximize impact. Drawing inspiration from NITI Aayog's Aspirational Districts Programme (ADP), which transformed 112 underdeveloped districts in health, education, andv infrastructure, PMDDKY focuses on regions with low crop yields (e.g., wheat yields below 3.5 tonnes/hectare compared to the national average), moderate cropping intensity (below 155%, meaning fewer than 1.55 crop cycles per year), and limited access to credit. By providing irrigation, storage, loans, training, and modern technology support, PMDDKY seeks to boost farmer incomes, ensure food security, and advance Atmanirbhar Bharat that is self-reliant India. It is pertinent to mention that District Samba is being selected by Govt of India among few district across country for oilseed mission.The live webcasting of the programme organized at KVK Samba was presided over by Sh. Surjit Singh Slathia MLA Samba. He interacted with farmers and appreciated the efforts of central Govt. for the welfare of the farming community. He emphasised upon the development of clusters for specialised products to harvest greater profits. He also appreciated the role of KVK Samba in organizing the program and its continuous efforts in educating farmers about modern farming techniques, crop diversification, and sustainable agricultural practices under the supervision of Prof Sanjay Khajuria.
Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist & Head KVK Samba while welcoming the guests and farmers in the programme and highlighted that PMDDKY, or Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, is a new scheme by the Indian government to support farmers. Under this scheme, farmers get direct financial help, new farming tools, crop insurance, and better market access. This was announced in the Union Budget 2025 to make farming easier, modern, and more profitable.
Sh. Balwan Singh Vice Chairman DDC Samba while interacting with farmers discussed the initiatives of government to support agriculture sector. He suggested farmers to adopt diversification by adopting innovative products and enterprises. He assured full support of all the departments to upscale new agricultural technologies and products among farmers o Samba district. Dr. Rakesh Khajuria Chief Agriculture Officer Samba in today's programme suggestedtd promoting value addition and processing in agriculture and horticulture through start-ups for percolation of economic benefits to the ultimate farmers. During the programme KVK Samba, honoured the hard work and dedication of the district's progressive farmers and farm women by presenting them with Certificates of Appreciation.
