MIER College conducts AI workshops in partnership with commonwealth of learning, Canada | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 11: MIER College of Education (Autonomous), Jammu, successfully organised two intensive workshops on Artificial Intelligence integration in higher education from October 6-9, 2025, in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Canada. Dr Kaushal Kumar Bhagat, Assistant Professor at the Advanced Technology Development Centre and Vice Chairman of the Centre for Teaching Learning and Virtual Skilling at IIT Kharagpur, served as the resource person for both workshops. The first workshop on Institutional AI Policy for Teaching, Learning and Research," held on 6-7 October 2025, brought together faculty members to develop a comprehensive institutional framework for responsible AI integration. Conducted at the Computer Lab and Conference Room in the Administrative Wing, the workshop addressed institutional AI readiness, ethical considerations, data governance, and policy frameworks aligned with national and global standards. Faculty participants engaged in collaborative group work organised around five key policy dimensions: policy rationale and strategy alignment; infrastructure and data governance; AI-enhanced teaching and assessment; capacity building and professional development; and governance and ethics of AI. Building on this foundation, the second workshop on "Teaching with Generative AI" was held on 8-9 October 2025, offering practical training to utilise generative AI tools in teaching. Participants learned prompting techniques, including the ART model, developed AI-integrated assessments and curriculum materials, and created customised AI chatbots for educational purposes, such as AI tutors and feedback systems. The workshop emphasised responsible AI use while upholding academic integrity and ethical standards. Through these workshops, participants developed expertise in defining generative AI applications in higher education, recognising ethical considerations such as bias and privacy, and implementing AI-driven assessment strategies. The training involved analysing AI outputs using the SIFT method, developing AI-integrated curricula, designing assessments appropriately placed on the AI Assessment Scale, and creating AI syllabus statements that promote transparency and uphold ethical standards. Prof. Mool Raj, Head of the Centre for Educational Technology at MIER, coordinated the workshops under the leadership of Prof. Adit Gupta, Director of MIER College of Education. The initiative reflects the institution commitment to remaining at the forefront of educational technology and its dedication to international collaboration in advancing educational innovation and developing robust institutional policies for responsible AI implementation. |
