As part of the nationwide celebration “Sardar @150 Unity March” to mark the 150th birth anniversary of the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, series of activities including padyatras (foot marches), nukkad nataks, cleanliness drives, swadeshi fairs, Nasha Mukt Bharat (Drug Free India) programmes, Yoga and health camps and pledge for a Atmanirbhara bharat, will be organized in Chandigarh from 31 October to inspire unity, patriotism and civic responsibility among youth.
This was announced by Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Satnam Singh Sandhu, who is in-charge of ‘Sardar @150 Unity March’ in Chandigarh, at a Press Conference in the presence of Chandigarh BJP officer bearers including State President Jatinder Pal Malhotra, Mayor of Chandigarh Harpreet Kaur Babla, General Secretary Sanjeev Rana and Convener Indira Singh.
“The Sardar@150 Unity March will be held in two major phases — district-level and national-level across India.
The district level Unity March will begin in Chandigarh from 31 October and continue till 15 November. During this, three pad yatras of eight to ten kilometers will be held in the city. Nukkad nataks (street plasy) will also be held in the city on the life of Sardar Patel. Young participants will also take pledges for a ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ (drug-free India) and spread awareness about substance abuse. Yoga sessions, health camps, Swadeshi Fairs and cleanliness drives will also be held across Chandigarh, along with floral tributes to Sardar Patel’s portraits and the reading of the Atmanirbhar Bharat pledge ‘Garv Se Swadeshi’ (pride in indigenous products),”
The Rajya Sabha MP Sandhu further said, “As part of this programme, national level march commence from 26 November which is also the Constitution Day .
This 152 kilometer march will begin from Sardar Patel’s birthplace Karamsad in Gujarat and will culminate at Statue of Unity ( Gujarat) on 6 December. Youth from Chandigarh who will be selected during the district level programmes will participate in this March,”.
He said over 55,000 youth from Chandigarh have already registered for participation in this mega event in Chandigarh through the portal (www.mybharat.gov.in/mega_event) and many more are expected to become a part of this nationwide movement dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Describing Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as not only a towering leader of India’s freedom struggle, but also as the visionary architect of a united and integrated India, Sandhu further said, “Sardar Patel played an instrumental role in the national integration of India.
It was through his determination and visionary leadership that 562 princely states were united into one sovereign nation that became India, a mammoth and unprecedented task in history. His efforts laid the foundation of a strong and united India.”
“Recognizing his unparalleled contribution, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014 declared October 31 as National Unity Day (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas) thereby paying a fitting tribute that came 67 years after India’s independence to honour the ‘Iron Man of India’ who truly built the framework of our unity.
Today, India stands as the most diverse nation in the world, a home to countless ethnicities, hundreds of languages and numerous tribes yet all coexisting harmoniously under one identity.
This unity in diversity is the greatest reflection of Sardar Patel’s vision and enduring legacy.”
