Jammu, Oct 17: Government GLDM Degree College Hiranagar celebrated World Statistics Day on the global theme “Quality Statistics and Data for Everyone”, under the patronage of the worthy Principal, Dr. Pragya Khanna. The event was organized by the Department of Mathematics, highlight the importance of accurate and reliable statistics in decision-making across various sectors such as education, healthcare, business, and governance.
The program started with the welcome address of Prof. Devia Narrania, HOD Mathematics, and expressed her gratitude to all students, faculty and judges for their contributions and reiterated the importance of quality data for informed decision making and societal developments.
The Principal of the College, Dr. Pragya Khanna, appreciated the efforts of the students and faculty in organizing such a wonderful event. She emphasized the need for statistical literacy in contemporary education and encouraged students to actively engage in analytical and problem-solving activities.
The programme featured poster and oral presentations on the theme, showcasing the practical significance of statistics in real-life situations, near about 50 students actively participated in this event. The presentations were evaluated by a panel of esteemed judges Prof. Kawaljeet Kour, Dr. Anupama Arora, Dr. Ram Krishan and Prof. Amit Kumar Sharma.
On this ocassion, Prof. Rakesh sharma, HOD Hindi, motivated the students and announced the results of the poster and oral presentation categories. The winners of the oral presentation were Shavi Sharma, Priya Devia and Chahat Gupta and the winners of poster presentations were, Shavi Sharma, Kamakshi Sharma and Chahat Gupta.
A formal vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Ritu Devi, marking the successful conclusion of the event. The faculty members who graced the occasion were Prof. Neeru sharma and Dr. Nishu.
