Jammu, Nov 4: aith turned into fear when a night of devotion ended in devastation. During a Mata Ki Chowki and Jagrata, a wall suddenly collapsed, leaving chaos and heartbreak behind. Among those injured was an 11-year-old girl from Jammu, trapped beneath the debris with severe head and leg injuries. While timely intervention saved her from life-threatening head trauma, her leg was left crushed, shortened and deformed. What should have healed with time turned into months of struggle. The family went from hospital to hospital, but every door seemed to close. The case was too complicated, the infection too severe, the risks too high. Finally, hope arrived at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Katra. Here, Dr Manish Kumar Varshney, Senior Orthopedic Surgeon, decided to take on the challenge. Known for his expertise in limb reconstruction, Dr Varshney used the Ilizarov technique, a specialized procedure for complex deformity correction and limb lengthening. His plan was to correct the bone, restore its length and heal the infection – all together. The surgery was done under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, ensuring the family faced no financial burden. Inside the operation theatre, Dr Varshney and his team worked with precision and dedication, determined to bring back the child’s ability to walk. “The case tested every bit of our skill and patience,” shared Dr Varshney. “Her bone was infected, shortened and badly damaged, but seeing her take her first steps again made it all worth it.” Months later, the little girl now walks on her own. Her bone has united, her confidence has returned, and her smile says it all. “This is more than medicine,” her father said. “Dr Manish and his team gave our daughter a second life.” Dr M M Mathawan, Facility Director, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, said that such cases remind everyone what healthcare truly means – courage, compassion and commitment. “Our hospital continues to be the preferred centre for complex orthopedic surgeries in the region,” he added. Dr Yashpal Sharma, Executive Director, SMVDIME, congratulated Dr Varshney and his team for the successful outcome. “The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board’s vision to provide world-class healthcare facilities through this hospital has made such life-changing recoveries possible,” he said. In the heart of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital continues to stand as a beacon of hope, where even after disaster, life is rebuilt with skill, compassion and faith. |
