Billawar, Nov 10: The Government Degree College (GDC) Billawar organized a One-Day Boot Camp on Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Startup Opportunities in Agriculture and Allied Sectors in collaboration with Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), Jammu. The event was held under the Jammu and Kashmir Collaborative Innovation Program (JKCIP) and aimed at promoting innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit among students.
The event was graced by Dr. Shabnam Kundal, FPO Development Officer, Kathua, as the Resource Person, along with Mr. Sahil Gupta, Manager, Incubation, SKUAST-Jammu. They were warmly welcomed by Dr. Alka Sharma, Principal, GDC Billawar, along with faculty members and student representatives.
In her inaugural address, Dr. Kundal emphasized the vital role of innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship in transforming the agricultural landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. She encouraged students and rural youth to explore new startup avenues in the agri-allied ecosystem and to develop practical solutions for farmers’ challenges.
The boot camp focused on fostering out-of-the-box thinking, skill development, and awareness about startup opportunities in agriculture, veterinary, and allied sectors. Experts from SKUAST-Jammu conducted interactive sessions on business idea development, value addition, funding opportunities for agri-startups, and the role of innovation in sustainable rural growth.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Alka Sharma, Principal of GDC Billawar, expressed gratitude to SKUAST-Jammu and JKCIP for choosing the college as the host institution. She noted that such programs give valuable exposure and motivation to rural youth, inspiring them to become job creators instead of job seekers.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members of various departments. Several innovative ideas and startup concepts were discussed during brainstorming sessions.
The event was coordinated by Prof. Rajesh Chalotra and Dr. Amrik Singh, Convenor IIIC, GDC Billawar, with active support from Prof. Raj Kiran, Prof. N.A.
