Jammu, Nov 10: Panic gripped the Kotli Mian Fateh area near Bishnah Ring Road on Monday morning after a 55-year-old man was found burning under mysterious circumstances.
Officials said the victim, identified as Puran Chand, son of Dev Raj and
resident of Ward Number 2, Devi Dawara Mandir, R S Pura, was spotted engulfed in flames by some locals, who informed the police.
Accordingly, they said, a team from Police Station Miran Sahib, led by the SHO concerned, rushed to the scene, helped locals douse the fire, and shifted the injured man to GMC Jammu in critical condition.
Later, a a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team collected evidence from the spot, while police launched an investigation to determine whether the incident was a case of self-immolation or a criminal act, officials said.
Meanwhile, police have appealed to the public and media to avoid speculation and await the official findings once factual details are established.
