Thannamandi, Nov 17: Government Degree College Thannamandi organized an awareness programme to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA). The programme was conducted under the patronage of Principal Dr. Farooq Ahmad, who in his address reaffirmed the institution’s dedication to holistic student development. He urged the academic community to uphold values of health, responsibility, and collective well-being, emphasizing those educational institutions must lead the way in fostering a culture of awareness and accountability. The event commenced with a collective pledge by students and faculty members, affirming their commitment to a drug-free lifestyle. A dry run and awareness campaign was followed by engaging participants in discussions around the harmful effects of substance abuse and the importance of preventive education. As part of the initiative, QR codes linking to the official NMBA online pledge portal were prominently displayed across the college campus, including notice boards, the canteen, and other areas. This facilitated digital participation, allowing students and staff to formally register their commitment to the cause. Dr. Naseem Ahmad, the college’s NMBA Nodal Officer, delivered an insightful address highlighting the psychological, social, and academic consequences of drug addiction. He emphasized the role of youth in building a resilient society and encouraged students to become proactive agents of awareness in their communities. The NMBA Committee including Dr Nazar Ul Islam, Dr Gulshan Rashid, Dr Goher Iqbal Qazi, and Dr Shiraz Ahmad played a pivotal role in organizing the event, ensuring wide outreach and active participation through strategic planning and campus-wide dissemination of campaign materials.
