| NIA arrests second mastermind in just 24 hours | | Red Fort Blast | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 17: In a dramatic escalation of its nationwide crackdown, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested the second key conspirator involved in the deadly Red Fort car bomb blast, tightening the noose around a sophisticated terror module that investigators say operated with “professional precision and chilling intent.” The NIA on Monday confirmed the arrest of Jasir Bilal Wani alias Danish, a Kashmiri resident accused of providing technical and logistical backbone to the terrorists who executed the November 10 attack that killed 13 people and injured over 25 near one of India’s most iconic landmarks. Investigators revealed that Jasir, a resident of Qazigund in Anantnag district, was allegedly involved in modifying drones for terror operations and even worked on experimental rockets, underscoring the alarming technological capabilities of the group. Working in close coordination with the suicide bomber Dr. Umar Un Nabi, Jasir allegedly helped plan the “terror carnage,” officials said, calling him an active co-conspirator in the attack’s execution. He was arrested from Srinagar by an NIA team probing the case (RC-21/2025/NIA/DLI). The arrest comes barely a day after the agency apprehended Amir Rashid Ali, another Kashmiri native believed to have coordinated directly with the suicide bomber. Ali was picked up from Delhi after a massive manhunt, with NIA confirming that the explosive-laden white sedan used in the attack was registered in his name. Ali allegedly travelled to Delhi specifically to purchase the vehicle and hand it over to the bomber for the mission. The NIA confirmed that the suicide bomber was 38-year-old Dr. Umar Un Nabi, an Assistant Professor of General Medicine at Al-Falah University, Faridabad. His double life—as a medical academic and a trained terrorist—has rattled security agencies. Investigators say he may have been part of an underground network of “educated professionals” aiding terror outfits, a phenomenon the agency is internally describing as “doctors with bombs.” A second vehicle owned by Umar is now under forensic examination for explosive residue and hidden communication systems. The NIA has recorded statements from 73 witnesses, including blast survivors who recalled scenes of chaos, smoke, and shattered metal near Delhi’s historic Red Fort. Simultaneously, anti-terror teams are conducting raids at multiple locations across Delhi, J&K, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh to trace every link in the terror chain. Early findings point to a multi-state conspiracy with possible cross-border backing. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah were briefed on the investigation’s progress. Shah reportedly reiterated a “zero tolerance” policy toward terrorism during a high-level review. Meanwhile, Delhi Police have ramped up security around major monuments, markets, transport hubs, and tourist zones. Authorities are urging citizens to report any suspicious activity as the investigation continues. With the arrest of two key conspirators in just 24 hours, the NIA says it is closing in on the entire network responsible for the Red Fort bombing. “Every individual associated with this conspiracy will be brought to justice,” an official asserted, signalling more arrests in the coming days. |
