GGM Science College Jammu concludes two days Workshop on “Virtual Labs”

Jammu, Nov 17: Virtual Lab Nodal Centre (VLNC) -205, which was established by IIT Bombay in Govt. Gandhi Memorial Science College Jammu, J&K UT, concluded two days workshop on “Virtual Labs across different science disciplines”. A large number of students and faculty members of department of chemistry and department of zoology participated in this workshop.
The valedictory function of the workshop was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Prof. Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal, GGM Science College Jammu in presence of Dr. Sweety Verma, HOD Chemistry, Dr. Rahul Kaith, HOD Zoology, Dr. Pankaj Gupta, Nodal Coordinator VLNC, Dr. Arun Sharma, Outreach Coordinator VLNC, Dr. Ashaq Hussain, Dr. Rohit Bhardwaz, Dr. Varinder Kumar, Dr. Sheetu Rain, Dr. Reetika and Dr. Jyotdeep Kour.
Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal of the College, congratulated the technical recourse persons of Virtual Lab team, Department of Chemistry and Department of Zoology for organizing this workshop for the students and faculty of Govt. Gandhi Memorial Science College, Jammu.
In his address, he encouraged all science teachers and students to utilize Virtual Labs as a valuable supplement to traditional physical laboratories.
He appreciated the dedicated efforts of the Virtual Lab team of GGM Science College and expressed confidence that all other departmental coordinators shall also hold such workshops in coordination with Nodal Coordinator of the college.
Dr. Rahul Kait highlighted that experiments through Virtual Labs should be encouraged and all faculty members shall follow this approach in the absence of physical laboratory resources so as the milestones of curriculum shall be achieved.
Dr. Pankaj Gupta, Associate Professor of Chemistry and Nodal Coordinator, VLNC, GGM Science College, during his address in the valedictory function emphasized that physical distance and limited resources often hinder the performance of experiments, especially those requiring sophisticated instruments, and that this challenge is effectively addressed to a great extent through the use of Virtual Labs. He encouraged all the departmental coordinators to organize Vlab workshops in their respective streams and ensure maximum participation of students.
During the course of the workshop, the technical session in the first day, which included demonstration and hands on session of simulation based experiments in Chemical Sciences on the topic “Acid Base titrations” and “Determination of viscosity”, was conducted by Dr. Pankaj Gupta and the technical session in the second day in the field of “Immunology and Molecular Biology Vlabs” on the topic “Blood Grouping” and “Agarose Gel Electrophoresis” was conducted by Dr. Rohit Bhardwaj, Assistant Professor in Zoology. The queries raised by students were addressed effectively by the speakers.
The proceedings of the event were conducted by Dr. Arun Sharma, Assistant Prof. in Physics.
The whole event was organized under the overall supervision of Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta and by the combined efforts of Dr. Vandhana Khajuria, Dr. Sweety Verma, Dr. Rahul Kaith, Dr. Ashaq Hussain, Dr. Pankaj Gupta (Organizing Secretary), Prof. Arun Sharma (Co-organizing secretary) and other faculty members of Department of Chemistry and Zoology.
