Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 17: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar today organized an Awareness Programme on the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens (MWPSC) Act, 2007 at Ahat-e-Waqar, Chanapora, Srinagar. The programme was held under the directions of Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority, Shazia Tabassum and under the chairmanship of Principal District & Sessions Judge, Srinagar, Tasleem Arief and under the supervision of Sub-Judge/Secretary, DLSA Srinagar, Sajad Ur Rehman. Addressing the gathering, Secretary, Ahat-e-Waqar, Er. Khazir Mohammad Trag, highlighted the importance of creating a supportive environment for senior citizens and ensuring their dignity and safety. Resource Persons including Assistant Legal Aid Defence Counsel DLSA Srinagar, sensitized the participants about the key provisions of the Senior Citizens Act, 2007, and the legal mechanisms available for protection, maintenance, and welfare of parents and elderly persons. They emphasized the responsibility of families, society, and institutions in upholding the rights of senior citizens. Senior citizens also shared their experiences during the event, expressing their views on the challenges faced by elders in contemporary society and the need for stronger community support. The efforts of DLSA Srinagar in conducting such meaningful awareness initiatives was appreciated, aimed at empowering and safeguarding the elderly members of the community. |
