Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 17: On 17 November 2025, The Department of Urdu, Government M.A.M. College, Jammu, successfully organized an Extension Lecture on the topic "Taraqqi Pasand Tehreek aur Urdu Afsana" in the Conference Hall of the college. The program was held under the esteemed chairmanship of the Worthy Principal, Prof. Archana Kaul, who presided over the function and appreciated the department for its continuous efforts in promoting literary and academic culture on campus. The invited Resource Person, Prof. (Dr.) Mushtaq Alam Qadri from the University of Delhi, delivered an insightful, engaging, and scholarly lecture. He highlighted the historical, ideological, and literary significance of the Progressive Writers' Movement, discussing how it transformed modern Urdu literature and played a decisive role in shaping the contemporary Urdu Afsana. He also emphasized the relevance of progressive thought in today's socio-cultural context. His address was highly appreciated by the students, scholars, and faculty members present. The event was graced by the distinguished presence of eminent faculty members, including: Prof. Seema Sudan, Prof. Muneer Hussain, Prof. Harbhajan Singh, Prof. Deepika Mehra, Prof. Jyoti Rani, Prof. Munish Kumar, Prof. Bharti Salathia, Prof. Shahbaz Shaikh, Prof. Imran Hussain Shah and Prof Shamsher Singh. Their participation added value to the academic environment of the program. The proceedings of the program were conducted by Dr. Mohd Akhtar, HOD Urdu, who welcomed the dignitaries and introduced the theme of the lecture. He remarked that such intellectual engagements provide students with opportunities to interact with leading scholars and strengthen their understanding of literary traditions.
