| Programme on 'Maintenance and Welfare of Parents, Senior Citizens Act, 2007' organized at GBHSS, Jammu | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 17: A special awareness programme on the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 was today organized at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Jammu. The session aimed to educate students about the legal, moral, and social responsibility of caring for parents and senior citizens. The resource persons for the programme were Advocate Uma Kapahi and Dr. Nitan Sharma, Assistant Professor, Law School, University of Jammu. Dr. Nitan Sharma delivered an insightful and interactive session, explaining the purpose, relevance, and key provisions of the Act. He highlighted how the law ensures that parents and senior citizens are protected, respected, and supported, particularly when they are unable to maintain themselves. His interaction with the students encouraged awareness and sensitivity towards elders in society. Advocate Uma Kapahi also addressed the gathering and emphasized the major features of the Act. She explained the duties of children and relatives towards their parents, the legal remedies available to senior citizens, and the importance of preserving family values. She urged young students to develop compassion, responsibility, and respect for their elders. The Principal and teachers of the school participated actively in the programme and appreciated the initiative. They encouraged students to uphold the values of respect, care, and protection of parents, stating that parents are considered divine and form the foundation of one's life. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and a message to the students to follow the moral and legal duties towards their parents and contribute to a more responsible and compassionate society. |
