| DAV conducts orientation session on National Education Day | | |  early times report
Amristar, Nov 21: The Department of Political Science, DAV College Amritsar in collaboration with ‘Political Science Association’ under the aegis of Institution’s Innovation Council organised an Orientation Session on ‘Education for the Future: Implementing the vision of NEP 2020’. The event aimed at sensitizing students about the transformative changes introduced under the National Education Policy 2020 and preparing them for future-ready learning. The session commenced with an ‘Introductory Address’ by Prof. Surinder Kumar, Head, Department of Political Science, who highlighted the legacy of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first Education Minister of independent India whose birth anniversary is celebrated as the National Education Day. Principal of the college and the President of the IIC, Dr. Amardeep Gupta, appreciated the initiative and encouraged students to embrace the opportunities created by the NEP framework. He also discussed this years’ theme for the National Education Day i.e. AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation. Dr. Gaurav Sharma, Assistant Professor in Political Science delivered an insightful lecture on the theme “Education for the Future: Implementing the Vision of NEP 2020.” He elaborated on key reforms such as flexible curricula, Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), experiential learning, skill integration, and digital empowerment. Dr. Sharma also highlighted the role of AI, blended learning, vocational exposure, and competency-based assessment models in shaping future-ready learners. He stressed that education must empower students with values, skills, and adaptability to meet 21st-century challenges. He also encouraged the students to empower themselves to face the challenges being posed by over-dependence on the use of Artificial Intelligence and guided the student to keep the human identity and value system intact in this increasingly automated world. The Orientation Session was highly interactive and beneficial for the students, providing them with clarity on the evolving educational landscape and motivating them to participate actively in upcoming academic and innovation-driven activities. Mr. Yuvraj Singh, a student of BA Sem-I shared his views on National Education Day and Ms. Lavanya recited a poem to mark the celebrations. The stage was conducted by Ms. Parneet Kaur of BA Sem V, the Student Coordinator and Ms. Lavanya, the Student Secretary of the Political Science Association. The program was graced by the presence of Dr. Manpreet Kaur, Convenor IIC and IIC Members Prof. Sandeep Kumar, Dr. Vikram Sharma, Prof. Manish Kapoor and Dr. Harsimran Singh Aulakh. The event was also attended by Prof. Richa Mahajan, Dr. Loveleen Kaur, Dr. Babsha Maingi, Prof. Mohit Mehra, Prof. Bharti Nanda, Dr. Kamalpreet Singh.
