| Top surgeon turned terror operative, Dr Adil Rather arrested minutes before his escape | | Red Fort Blast | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 21:In a major breakthrough against the growing network of white-collar terror operatives, security agencies have uncovered fresh details about Dr. Adil Ahmed Rather, a Kashmir-based surgeon who was first arrested from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh for his alleged links with the Pakistan-backed terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). According to sources, Dr. Rather—who had been practicing at a prominent private hospital in Saharanpur—was allegedly involved in pasting JeM posters in Srinagar before fleeing the Valley to evade arrest. Despite drawing an astonishing salary of Rs 5 lakh per month, he chose to stay in a modest Rs 5,000-per-month rented room, a move that investigators believe was aimed at dodging surveillance and avoiding the radar of intelligence agencies. Sources revealed that on the day of his arrest, Dr. Rather had packed his belongings and was “minutes away from attempting to run away,” likely in anticipation of a looming crackdown. His interrogation has reportedly provided significant leads into the expanding footprint of radicalized professionals operating covertly within medical and educational institutions. Dr. Rather’s arrest is part of a wider operation targeting an emerging white-collar terror module, in which highly educated individuals—particularly medical professionals—were allegedly involved in digital radicalisation, recruitment of women, and logistical support for terror outfits. Over the past week, multiple raids were conducted across Srinagar, Anantnag, Kulgam and other districts, leading to the detention and arrest of several doctors suspected to be part of a structured network working under the influence of a woman identified as “Madam Surgeon” Dr. Shaheen Shahid. A senior physician from central Kashmir, who, along with his wife, was allegedly operating online channels to radicalise youth and women. Security agencies recovered five mobile phones, multiple SIM cards, and encrypted communication tools from their residence. Another doctor from south Kashmir, who allegedly facilitated safe houses and arranged medical cover for underground militants while maintaining an impeccable professional façade. Several junior doctors and paramedics are also being questioned for suspected involvement in spreading extremist propaganda, glorification of terror acts, and coordinating recruitment activities. Officials describe this module as one of the most dangerous emerging threats—terrorism disguised in professional uniforms, capable of influencing youth under the garb of social respectability. A senior officer said the arrests have “exposed the disturbing trend of radicalisation among highly educated individuals who misused their positions to push extremist narratives and assist banned terror outfits.” Security agencies are now examining Dr. Rather’s financial records, digital footprint, and movement over the last two years to trace the full extent of his connection with JeM recruiters. |
