REASI, Nov 25: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies Jammu (SKUAST-J) in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Reasi organised farmers training programme on natural farming under "National Mission on Natural Farming" project here today at Beaulian village in Pouni block of Reasi distt. in J&K which was enthusiastically attended by a number of farmers of the area. The programme was organized under the dynamic stewardship of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.N. Tripathi and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof. Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J. The major objective of the programme was to train the farmers on natural farming and educate them on the various practices required for natural farming. Chief Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal started the programme with warm welcome of the participants.He said that Reasi district of J&K has huge potential in natural farming and the farmers can generate more income by producing the safe and healthy food through natural farming. He deliberated on the need of natural farming in present era and discussed in detail on the food and nutritional security. He stressed on the need to shift conventional farming to natural farming so as to safeguard biodiversity and environment. He emphasised on the cluster based approach required for natural farming. He informed that natural farming is a promising means of reducing the dependence of farmers on external inputs, reducing the cost of cultivation and increasing the income of the farmers. He guided farmers on the formulations of Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Ghanjeevamrit, Agniastra, Neemastra, Brahmastra, Panchgavya etc. and explained their uses. He also guided the participants on mulching and Wapsa(moisture) practices of natural farming. Dr. Mandeep Singh Azad, Scientist spoke in detail on herbal dairy farming and stressed on natural farming practices in fodder production.
