| Bani Premier League kicks off | | | Early Times Report KATHUA, Nov 25: A four-day cricket tournament aimed at promoting sports among youth and preventing drug abuse began today at the Government Degree College (GDC) Bani ground. The event is being organized by Bharat Sports Club with the support of the Indian Army and the National Hydro Project Corporation (NHPC), Seva Second Power Station, Machhakka. The tournament was formally inaugurated by Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma, Principal GDC Bani, and Surinder Raina, Station House Officer (SHO) Bani. In their inaugural address, the chief guests highlighted that sports activities in remote hilly regions not only provide a platform for young talent but also play an essential role in keeping them away from drugs. Bharat Sports Club General Secretary Dalip Kumar Tandon informed that 12 teams from various areas are participating in this year's tournament. He further stated that this is the first edition of the Bani Premier League, which has evolved from the earlier Freedom Cup played for the last 15 years. The tournament has now been rebranded and redesigned to give players a more competitive and professional experience. Day 1 Match Summary Match 1: Rising Star Challa vs Rising Star Guddu Rising Star Guddu scored 74/7 in 10 overs. Rising Star Challa chased the target in 8.4 overs, scoring 74 with 7 wickets down to claim victory. Match 2: Royal Challengers Duggan vs Spartan Strikers Royal Challengers Duggan set a target of 78 runs. Spartan Strikers managed 74 runs, handing Duggan's team a narrow win. Match 3: Golden Gladiators vs Sangam Hariprayag Sarthali Golden Gladiators posted 78 runs in 10 overs. Sangam Hariprayag Sarthali were bowled out in 9.4 overs, giving the Gladiators a commanding win. Three more exciting matches will be played on Day 2. Speaking on the occasion, SHO Surinder Raina praised Bharat Sports Club for organizing such a large tournament in the challenging terrain of Bani for 15 consecutive years. He said that despite limited resources, the club has consistently encouraged youth toward sports and away from drugs - a commendable effort for the betterment of society. |
