Jammu, Nov 27: A group of 140 students from the Skill Course “Ornamental Fishes and Aquarium Making – III” (Semester III) of the Zoology Department visited the Aquarium-cum-Fish Awareness Centre, Bagh-e-Bahu Fort, Jammu, as part of their curriculum-based zoological educational trip. The tour was flagged off by Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal, in the presence of dignitaries Dr. Rahul Kait (HOD Zoology), Dr. M. S. Saini, Dr. Kamal, Dr. Brinder Kumar and Dr. Mateen Hafiz.Speaking on the occasion, Principal Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta said, “Such field visits provide experiential learning to students and help them connect theoretical knowledge with real-life biodiversity. The Department is doing commendable work by exposing students to scientific facilities outside the classroom.”Echoing his views, Dr. Rahul Kait, HOD Zoology, stated, “This educational visit strengthens the students’ understanding of ornamental fish diversity, aquarium technology, and conservation concepts. Practical exposure is an essential part of zoological studies, and our students benefit greatly from such initiatives.”The students were accompanied by faculty members Dr. Bal Krishan, Dr. Sheetal Raina, Dr. Rohit Bhardwaj,Dr. Reetika Rani, Dr. Majid, Dr. Syed, and Mr. Raj Kumar Sodhi.At the Aquarium Centre, Ms. Bano, Deputy Inspector, delivered an informative lecture on ornamental fish species, aquarium designing techniques, scientific maintenance, hygiene protocols, and fish conservation awareness. Students interacted enthusiastically and gained substantial hands-on knowledge. The trip proved highly beneficial, offering students a rich blend of academic insight and practical exposure to the field of ornamental fisheries and aquarium science.
