| LG Sinha’s Clarion Call | | | Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has called upon the poets and writers to strengthen the unity and counter secessionist attempts to divide and radicalise youth in Kashmir. It’s known to all that literature plays an important role in nation-building, poets create stronger national identity and social cohesion through their expression. “We should focus on promoting regional literature to fully capitalize on its potential for social harmony and national strength,” the Lieutenant Governor said. His call is loud and clear that poets, writers and intellectuals need to rise against terror and its sponsors and spread a message through their writings and poetry. Despite Kashmir witnessing a massive change in the past 5 to 6 years, a few elements at the behest of the terror bosses sitting across the Line of Control (LoC) are still making attempts to disrupt peace in the Valley by radicalizing the youngsters. In the recent years security situation has improved, opportunities for youth have increased. Stronger environment for entrepreneurship and innovation has been created. Tourism has grown, infrastructure has improved, and the democratic process has been strengthened. Yet, as the Lieutenant Governor pointed out, certain elements—acting at the command of terror handlers across the Line of Control—continue to look for ways to mislead and radicalise young minds. Their objective is clear: to derail peace, disrupt progress, and poison the minds of a generation that deserves stability, education, and opportunities. LG Sinha calling upon the poets and writers to stand up against terror is an appropriate call at the right time. Writers through their writings and poets through their poetry have the capability to build a counter narrative and foil the evil designs of the enemies. It’s not the security forces only that have to fight the battle against radicalization. It must also be fought in the minds and hearts of people—and this is where poets and writers can become a formidable force. Literature has a unique ability to reach where weapons and official statements cannot. A poem can touch the conscience. A story can expose the futility of violence. A novel can highlight the value of harmony. Writers can articulate the aspirations of youth far more effectively than propagandists can spread hate. In Kashmir where the conflict has long sought to distort identity and suppress cultural expression, literature can act as an instrument of empowerment. By giving voice to local stories, celebrating Jammu and Kashmir’s composite culture, and inspiring youth toward constructive aspirations, writers and poets can help fortify the social fabric. |
