Srinagar, Nov 28: The 2-day meeting of the National Conference (NC) Working Committee concluded here on Friday passing a series of resolutions on issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir and other matters. A Srinagar based news agency quoting NC leader said, " The committee unanimously reaffirmed its commitment to the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status.” He said, “The NC’s working committee reiterated the issue of statehood remains central to the aspirations of the people and must be addressed without delay. The party said it would continue its efforts for the full restoration of the region’s special status.” The Committee, according to the NC leader, also urged the Centre to immediately restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. “It referred to promises made in Parliament, statements in the public domain, and observations by the Supreme Court’s Constitution Bench in support of statehood restoration,” he added. The leader said on the national security, the NC Working Committee expressed concern over the recent terror attack in Delhi and extended condolences to the families of victims. “Such acts of violence have no place in a civilised society and must be dealt with firmly.” “The Committee also expressed concern over the Nowgam blast, extending condolences to the affected families and calling for a high-level investigation to ensure accountability for any deviations from standard procedures,” the leader said, adding, “The Committee discussed reports of harassment faced by students, traders, and residents of Jammu and Kashmir in different parts of the country.” “It condemned the selective targeting of people from the region and emphasized that not all residents are linked to terrorism. The committee called on state governments to ensure the safety, protection, and dignity of Kashmiris living or working outside the Union Territory,” the NC leader said. “The NC reaffirmed its commitment to implementing all promises made in its election manifesto and highlighted the importance of fulfilling those commitments to the people. The Committee also expressed full support to the government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. It urged the administration to continue implementing policies that address public aspirations and uphold the dignity of residents,” the leader added. He said that the Working Committee underlined the party’s focus on political, social, and administrative issues in Jammu and Kashmir, and its continued engagement with both state and national authorities to address the concerns of the region and its residents. |
