Jammu, Nov 28: Director Agriculture Jammu, Sh. Anil Gupta, today visited the State Seed Testing Laboratory, Jammu, to review ongoing operations and strengthen the overall seed quality assurance system. During the visit, he formally inaugurated a 30 kVA generator set, installed to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the laboratory and support critical testing processes. Present on the occasion were Joint Director (Inputs) Dr. Ashwani Sharma, Joint Director (SLUB/Farms) Sh. Aman Jyoti Sharma, Seed Analyst Sh. Gopal Krishan, Agriculture Chemist Jammu Sh. Vinod Kumar Sharma, Assistant Entomologist Ms. Bharti Thusoo, SMS Sh. Santosh Bhat, JAEO Punamjit Kour, AEA Sanjay Razdan, Ajay Kumar, Sanjogita, Jyoti Bala, and the staff of the Seed Analyst section. The Director inspected various sections of the laboratory complex, where several modern equipment and instruments have been installed, including seed germinators, moisture meters, seed counting machines, and specialized ovens, aimed at enhancing the accuracy, efficiency, and reliability of seed testing procedures. Sh. Anil Gupta also inspected the guard room for seed samples, where samples are securely preserved for the mandated period to maintain the integrity of testing and verification protocols. In addition, the Director visited the Grow Out Test (GOT) field, where the first sowing cycle has been initiated to assess seed germination, genetic identity, and varietal purity under natural field conditions. Speaking on the occasion, the Director emphasised the importance of maintaining high standards in seed testing, ensuring that farmers receive quality, reliable, and certified seeds, which are crucial for achieving higher productivity and promoting sustainable agricultural development across the Jammu Division. He appreciated the efforts of the laboratory team and stressed the need for continuous upgradation of facilities to meet emerging challenges in seed quality regulation. |
