SIR stands for Special Intensive Revision. It is a special census-related process started by the Election Commission of India, which focuses on intensive review and updating of the voter list. He says its main objective is to make the voter lists accurate, transparent and up-to-date. This includes removing duplicate entries, removing dead voters, and adding new voters (especially youth). This is part of the preparation before the 2026 census, to ensure fairness in Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. He said that due to India's growing population (more than 1.4 billion), voter lists often become old or erroneous. SIR will help in strengthening democracy, as it strengthens the right to vote.
