Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 8: Senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony, on Monday launched a blistering attack on the Modi government and BJP, warning that India is "slipping into an era where corporate monopolies, backed by the government and nurtured by personal friendships, could hold the nation hostage," citing the recent Indigo flight cancellations as a warning of what is to come. Tony said the aviation crisis exposed the government's failure to regulate private corporations. "This is exactly what happens when the Modi government allows monopolies to rise unchecked. Today it is Indigo, tomorrow it will be Ambani or Adani. The BJP is actively backing these private players, and the Prime Minister's close friendship with Ambani ensures they get preferential access to national resources and critical sectors. This puts the entire country at risk," he said. He added that the next major crisis could be catastrophic if these conglomerates control fuel, gas, power, or other vital commodities. "Just as Indigo held millions of travellers hostage, tomorrow India could be held ransom by companies handpicked and supported by the Modi government," he warned. Highlighting the disruption caused by Indigo, Tony said millions of travellers were stranded, businesses suffered huge losses, and daily life was paralyzed. "The chairman of Indigo must take responsibility, but the Modi government is equally culpable for letting citizens pay the price while corporate monopolies thrive," he said. Tony also pointed to telecom dominance, saying, "Jio, controlled by Ambani and backed by the Modi government, now dominates over 41% of the market. Even issues like overbilling for 13 months in a 12-month year were never questioned by the authorities. This is not healthy competition; it is a government-protected corporate monopoly. If unchecked, the same pattern could extend to other critical sectors, giving Ambani and his allies undue control over resources that affect the lives of every Indian." He demanded urgent regulatory reforms to prevent corporations like Ambani and Adani from holding India hostage, accusing the BJP and Modi government of putting private profits above public interest. "The people of India deserve accountability, not a government that empowers monopolies to dictate terms to the nation," Tony said. |
