Early Times Report REASI, Dec 11: Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi, Sh. Paramvir Singh, JKPS, alongwith AdSP Reasi, Dysp DAR and SDPO Arnas conducted an extensive interaction with the Village Defence Groups (VDGs) at firing butt near Rudd Pull, Arnas. Hundreds of VDG members from farflung Villages of Arnas participated and interacted with the officers. SSP reviewed the ongoing deployment and overall security preparedness of VDGs to deal with any suspicious movement in the district. During the interaction, the SSP evaluated the proficiency of VDG members, including their weaponry, firing skills and weapon-handling techniques. He also inspected the firing practice being conducted by District Police Reasi and gathered information regarding their experience under CRPF and Army as their Nodal point as per SOP. The officer stressed that upgrading firing accuracy, enhancing weapon-handling capabilities, and reinforcing operational readiness in line with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) is aimed to improve the performance of VDGs. As part of the security augmentation plan for the year 2024-25, District Police Reasi has undertaken the following measures to Upgrade VDGs of the district Reasi. Created 97 new VDG groups, engaging 1,164 new members; Replaced 726 over-aged VDG members with fit and active personnel; Engaged 1,902 additional members across existing VDG groups to further strengthen village-level security. SSP Reasi underscored the importance of continuous training, close coordination, and operational cooperation among VDGs, and security agencies particularly in remote and sensitive regions of the district. |
