JAMMU, Dec 11: The Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department today launched a massive campaign on Energy Conservation across J&K as part of the ongoing National Energy Conservation Week observance. The initiative was aimed at to sensitise the masses about the importance of conserving energy. During the campaign, it was highlighted that Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), JKPDD, Shailendra Kumar, has laid strong emphasis on promoting judicious use of electricity, minimizing wastage and conducting regular Energy Conservation campaigns across J&K. He has particularly stressed that simple practices such as switching off lights during daytime and whenever not in use should become routine habits among the citizens to ensure responsible and efficient use of electricity. Under the guidance of the ACS, a massive energy conservation campaign was launched by the Chief Electrical Inspector, Sanjay Sharma, along with his State Designated Agency (SDA) team, who organized a series of events and awareness programmes in government and private schools and colleges across J&K. The key highlight of the week-long initiative was the ‘Energy Conservation Pledge’, administered during the morning assembly sessions in numerous schools and colleges across J&K. Thousands of students, right from pre-primary classes to the collegiate level participated. The students were encouraged to extend the message of energy conservation beyond school premises by spreading awareness within their families and neighbourhoods. It was informed that educational institutions are also conducting various thematic activities, including debates, slogan-writing competitions and other awareness drives focused on energy conservation. This initiative on energy conservation would not only help save our natural resources but also contribute towards environmental sustainability.
