Early Times Report CHANDIGARH, Dec 12: Chandigarh University gave a heroic welcome to CU athletes at Sector 42 stadium in Chandigarh on their return from 5th Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2025 in Rajasthan after creating history by topping the medal tally with a staggering haul of 42 Gold Medals, 14 Silver Medals and 11 Bronze Medals, making Chandigarh University first university in India to win the prestigious KUIG two years in a row. With this a standout performance delivered by its contingent consisting of 174 student athletes - 100 girls and 74 boys - to finish atop the medal table with 67 medals, Chandigarh University has become the first University in India to win Khelo India University Games consequently and retain overall championship for two years in a row ever since the inception of KIUG in 2020. Chandigarh University's winning contingent was warmly received by CU students, faculty and management members including Deepinder Singh Sandhu, Senior Managing Director, Chandigarh University along with players, coaches, sports department of the university and other university officials including advisor to Chancellor Chandigarh University Prof (Dr) RS Bawa, Professor and Executive Director (Administration) CU, Brigadier (Dr) Gagan Deep Singh Baath and CU's Deputy Director of Sports, Deepak Kumar Singh. The medal winners were welcomed with fireworks and drumbeats as the decorated open vehicle carrying them rolled into the Sector 42 stadium in Chandigarh amid playing of patriotic songs. The victory cerebration was attended by 20 medalists of Khelo India University Games 2025. These included Gold medalists Shivani Yadav (Weightlifting Gold), Mahaveer, Sitaram, Parhalad Kumar and S Sakshat Patra ( all Cycling), Rajni and Sweety (both wrestling), Vishal and Harpreet Singh Maan (Archery), Priya and Ankita Chandel (both Kabaddi) and Rahul (Athletics). Silver medalists Kumbheswar Mallik (Weightlifting) and Mukul (Cycling) along with Bronze medalists including Kaashvi Gupta (Table-Tennis), Sukrant (Shooting), Himanshi Singh (Cycling), Chutki (Volleyball), Priya (Volleyball) and Gaurav (Fencing) also attened by victory celebration. |
