Jammu, Dec 14: The Ex-Servicemen Committee, Bishnah/Arnia today organised a solemn function at Shiromani Sant Kabir Bhawan, Chak Avtara, Bishnah to commemorate Vijay Diwas, marking India’s historic victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak War. Maj Gen S. K. Sharma graced the occasion as Chief Guest, while Sh. F. C. Bhagat, Retd. Deputy Commissioner, attended as Guest of Honour. The speakers paid rich tributes to the valour, courage and supreme sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces that led to the decisive victory in 1971. Addressing the gathering, Col Gurbaksh Singh, Col R. P. Panotra, Sh. Gurmeet Singh, SDPO R.S. Pura, Sh. R. S. Jamwal, SHO Bishnah, and Sh. Dev Raj, Ex-Serviceman highlighted the historical significance of Vijay Diwas and exhorted citizens to uphold the ideals of patriotism, unity and national service. During the programme, SDPO R.S. Pura and SHO Bishnah also expressed concern over the growing drug menace and appealed to the public for active cooperation in combating drug abuse and safeguarding the youth. Adding a youthful and inspiring perspect, Miss Mikayla Bhagat also addressed the gathering, stressing the importance of instilling national values and social responsibility among the younger generation. The programme concluded with a collective pledge to honour the sacrifices of the Armed Forces and to work together for a drug-free and socially responsible society.
